For the launch of the new channel brand Sky Documentaries, Monkey XR was commissioned to develop AR filters for two pilot projects. With the help of the filters, Sky lets fans immerse themselves in the world of their documentaries and connects offline with online campaign.

Shooting Joe Exotic

British documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux meets the team trying to get Joe Exotic out of prison and talks to people close to Exotic who have never been in front of a camera before.

We developed two filter concepts that digitally process Joe's story. For the first concept, users transform into Joe Exotic with mullet and moustache. When they open their mouths, they are surprised from behind by a 3D tiger. The second concept consists of a game where fans can break out of prison.

The Ibiza Affair

Journalists publish excerpts of a secretly recorded video, triggering the Ibiza affair. Sky reconstructs the long road to the video's release in »The Ibiza Affair«. Sky launches the campaign for the documentary with an action in which a container is placed right in front of the Chancellery in Vienna. The container contains a replica of the rooms of the villa in Ibiza where the affair began.

The filter we implemented for the event focuses entirely on the container. If a spectator is standing in front of the container, a video of the key scene on the container wall can be viewed with the smartphone.

The filter can also be applied to the out-of-home campaign. The trailer for the documentary can be played on all posters and city lights.
